There’s something about this time of year that feels both exciting and exhausting.
The blank notebooks. The fresh routines. The return of structure.
But also…the alarms, the carpool lines, and the mental load that never seems to clock out.
And if you’re anything like me, it’s easy to pour all your energy into making sure everyone else is ready—and forget yourself entirely in the process.
So today, I’m sharing 5 simple habits I’ve put in place to help me feel grounded, clear-headed, and actually enjoy this season.
Because your peace matters just as much as their lunchbox.
This doesn’t mean waking up two hours early.
But even 10–15 minutes of quiet—before the rush—can shift everything.
Whether it’s reading a devotional, drinking water in silence, or just not talking to anyone yet, that little buffer gives your brain a head start.
A giant calendar no one checks isn’t helpful.
What works for me?
A simple Sunday rhythm:
I open my week, plug in appointments, pick three things that matter for each day, and make sure my family knows what’s coming.
Clarity calms me.
You don’t need a 30-day meal plan.
But having just a few go-to meals on autopilot—like Taco Tuesday, Sheet Pan Thursday, or Leftover Friday—makes life feel way more manageable.
Decision fatigue is real. Let’s simplify wherever we can.
Laundry, inboxes, errands, random Target returns... these tasks expand to fill every spare minute if you let them.
So I set a “power hour” two times a week for all of it.
Phone on Do Not Disturb. No distractions.
Then I move on. No guilt.
Not for your kids. Not for your spouse. Not for your to-do list.
For you.
That could be a podcast while you drive.
Five minutes of stretching.
A text to a friend.
A mocktail on the patio after bedtime.
Tiny moments of joy go a long way in keeping your spirit steady.
Back-to-school isn’t just about new lunchboxes and sharpened pencils.
It’s a chance to reset your rhythms.
To come back to yourself a little more.
To show up for the people you love without running on empty.
So breathe, mama.
You don’t have to do it all.
Just lead with intention—and let grace fill the gaps.
You’ve got this.
With love,
